Shine Program 2025

AN ACCESSIBLE TOUR

SHINE is a guided visit to Takapuna Winter Lights outside of the main opening times designed specifically for our guests with diverse needs and enables accessibility for all.

Two 45 minute guided tours for approximately 15+ guests, accompanied by their whanau and supporters
Each tour was based on a consistent narrative describing the event, why it happens, some insights from the event lead and the value of community, arts and culture.
We adapted the delivery of this narrative to suit the needs of the group, we also had photo opportunities.
We ran two tours over two days, Friday and Saturday from 4-5pm.
Wrap the tour up with an ice cream at Duck Island.

Takapuna Winter Lights had partnered up with Yes Disability and PHAB, who lead the tours, with the TWL team.

This year, the SHINE tours grew considerably, and we saw a wonderful knock-on effect. Accessibility across the entire space was thoughtfully designed and genuinely considered. For our community, it’s incredibly special to feel included in events like the Takapuna Winter Lights, and to see accessibility not just accommodated but prioritised is truly remarkable. We can’t wait to see how much it grows next year. Having our membership bring friends, flatmates and siblings along truly made it feel like they were so excited to share the experience with the people that mean the most to them.
